Gazing through the window, my thoughts played around some of the most important things the world is leaning towards. I suddenly realized something very typical yet not so pragmatic amongst everyone. Every single women right from the celebrity stars to the girl next door, claims themselves as a feminist and raises voice for the power and rights they can experience. Althoug the real definition of being a feminist stands to fight for gender equality. Unfortunately the practise of being one, does not deem to fulfill the same. Feminism is somehow reckoned to be ‘for’ the support and growth of women and ‘against’ the welfare of men, which is completely incorrect. Even if we do not tend to embrace such a pratcise, unknowingly all the focus is towards women, their welfare, their struggles and their rights. But what about the old who spend days and nights homeless, the poor kids who look forward to someone to educate them, the farmers who die waiting for rains, the young boys who are badly molested, the dogs thrown out or the wild animals killed and tortured for their valuable by products. Who is fighting on behalf of them, who is a helping hand to them or who is at least bothered to highlight them?
I would voice that I am a “humanist”, rather than a feminist.
Here is why all these women must stop calling themselves as “feminists”. Feminism by definition stands for, “the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.” So feminism is just another word for gender equality. That is all. It’s not something as ‘anti-men’ movement as many assume.
A poll conducted by Huffington Post, says something vivid about the thoughts of feminists around us. According to the survey, just 20 percent of Americans — including 23 percent of women and 16 percent of men — consider themselves feminists. Another 8 percent consider themselves anti-feminists, while 63 percent said they are neither.
Considering the fact that girl children are killed before they are born, young girls are prohibited to pursue schools and universities, women are payed less in the workplace compared to men, female circumcision is still common in several parts of the world, I do agree that women need more rights and freedom to live their life as they want.
But hold on, why do we call “mother” nature and not “father” nature, why is it called mother Earth?, why is the ship – referred as “she”, why is liberty itself termed as “feminine“. Because it’s the way things have always been. Women do have power naturally, you just need to unearth it, do not ask for it. Women do not need men to let them free. Why should a man tell me that I am more powerful or why should I request him for my freedom? Does that even make sense, at least not for me?

Do you really have an idea on how many kids who are boys are sexually assaulted every single day, how many children have been abandoned from basic education and are are striving to come out of child labour, how many men are cheated on their relationships, how many poor people go to bed without having dinner or how many old parents are sent to old-age homes, how many people are offended for practicing a particular religion, how much global warming are we causing every single day, how many army soldiers die without being recognised, how many refugges are wandering without a roof.
Why are we not fighting against them? Why is the voice raised only for the well being of “women”?
If you say the world is fighting for these issues as well, then I am sorry I can’t hear the voice as loud as the voice of feminists. You think of fighting for gender equality amidst having food, clothing, shelter and education. Millions of children have no idea how will a McDonald’s burger taste like or they have no idea what Zara and Lee Cooper really are. So be kind for what you have, and help those who are really in need of such basic things in life.

Being said that, I no where insist that you are not suppose to fight for your self rights. I just want to emphasize that there are way more paramount things for which the world must re-think and embrace peace.
Though it’s a tough call, I may sound rude for those who do promote feminism and fight for the rights of women. But look deep, feel the insight and sense the reality of this world. You will be on same page with me. After all, feminism is supposed to be for everyone, because gender equality is for everyone. So let’s stop labeling only women as feminists.
Let’s fight for humanism rather than feminism. Let’s fight for the good unitedly and not against gender. Let’s make the world a better place to live, for everyone and not only women!
