Father’s Day has its origins in the 1910’s at the United States. The initiator was Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington state, who wanted to honor her father, William Smart that he alone brought her and her five siblings on his farm in Washington.
His wife when she gave birth to the family’s six children, died in the crib. Mrs. Dodds initiative spread, and in 1924 declared President Calvin Coolidge that he supported the idea. However, it would take until 1966 before President Lyndon B. Johnson instituted on the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day in the United States.
The custom came to Sweden in 1931 and the day was celebrated at the beginning of June also in the other Nordic countries. After requests from the Nordic trading community was postponed time for Father’s Day until November to be better in relation to Mother’sDay. Father’s day is therefore now on the second Sunday in November.
Make your dad feel special on this day. Wish you all Happy Father’s Day!!!
